Beets, Broccoli, and Bell Peppers
Beets, broccoli, and bell peppers shine in mid-summer and late fall, with beets remaining in season until winter. Consider stocking up if you’re planning to make a stir-fry or toss a salad (because ranch dressing is always in season!).
Cucumbers, Mushrooms, Potatoes, and Tomatoes
Cucumbers, mushrooms, potatoes, and tomatoes are among the hardiest produce, and you can’t go wrong no matter when you buy. In Colorado, they’re in season year-round, making them great additions to everything from summer potluck dishes to autumn stews.
Melons
Melon mania occurs in summer and fall, featuring honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon, and summer squash in season. If you're craving winter squash, you’ll need to wait until late September; it earns its name for a reason.
Peaches and Plums
Peaches are a late-summer, early-fall fruit and a local favorite, thanks to the orchards of Palisade that produce exceptionally sweet and juicy bushels. Plums are also in season; like peaches, they tend to peak around mid-August.
Raspberries and Strawberries
Raspberries and strawberries are ripe until October, with strawberries having a much longer growing season. Of course, you can also find other berries at farmers’ markets, but they might not be as ripe. Blueberries, for example, tend to peak in Colorado around June.
Apples….Almost
Apples start their season around mid-August, though they’re most often considered an autumn fruit. Their growing period is long, lasting until March, providing apple enthusiasts with plenty of variety. From pies to ciders, there’s a wide range of options!
