Swimming is a summertime tradition (although there’s nothing wrong with enjoying it year-round). In Boulder, you can find several places to immerse yourself in water, including indoor pools, outdoor swimming spots, and nature-focused splash pads. Here are our favorite local swimming holes:
Boulder Reservoir
Boulder Reservoir is the classic seasonal hot spot. Covering 700 acres, this reservoir offers everything from swimming, boating, fishing, and waterskiing to nature hikes, cycling, trail running, picnicking, and wildlife viewing. It tends to fill up quickly, given its popularity, so consider visiting mid-week if you want to avoid the crowds.
East Boulder Community Center
East Boulder Community Center is a great choice for those wanting to enjoy a swim away from the harsh UV rays. Take a swim in the indoor lap lanes (25 yards long) or unwind in the hot tub. The rec center also has an on-site steam room.
Scott Carpenter Park
Scott Carpenter Park and Pool is a top-notch option for kids seeking activities during adult swim. After leaving the water, visitors can enjoy the on-site skate park, an open turf field, a baseball diamond, and a classic, old-school playground. Even in winter, this park remains popular; it’s one of the main sledding spots in town.
Spruce Pool
Spruce Pool is an excellent spot to beat the heat and is one of the most popular pools in the city. It’s also famous for its pool parties. You can host an outdoor party for $200 ($250 for non-residents); prices cover up to 20 guests, with additional guests costing $5 each.
Coot Lake
Coot Lake isn’t really known as a swimming spot for people, but it’s the perfect pool for your pup! If your four-legged best friend loves the water, consider bringing them along on a hot summer day. Dogs are permitted on the east and south shores; they must stay off the west side and away from the wetlands…and the wildlife.
