COVID-19 may have changed the game when it
comes to annual races, but it hasn’t put up a finish line permanently; the
show, and the shoes, must go on…virtually! The Luck of the Irish 5k is doing
just that and coming soon to a sidewalk near you.
Read on the learn how to participate and what
this race is all about.
A St. Patrick’s Day Celebration
The Luck of the Irish 5k celebrates
St. Patrick’s Day and takes place around March 17th. While you can
participate in the race on St. Patrick’s Day, you can also do it any time in
March, as well. You get to choose the race venue; you can run at the local high
school track, around your neighborhood, or on a nature trail. You can even run
at your favorite gym or on your bedroom treadmill. Record your time and report
back to race officials to make sure it counts.
The cost to enter is $18, which includes a
medal and a bib. A portion of your entry fee will also be donated to the National Hemophilia Foundation, an organization that has advocated for those
with bleeding disorders since 1948. Each year, the Luck of the Irish 5k chooses
a different organization to donate to.
Why is the Race Virtual?
Virtual races soared in
popularity during the 2020 pandemic when people sought a way to stay active,
get exercise, and make a difference without exposing themselves to germ-filled
crowds.
This ultimately revealed
the major convenience of doing races online and giving people the power to run
or walk without time or location being an issue. This isn’t to say the Luck of
the Irish will never be in person again, but with COVID-19 still lurking, it
might stay virtual for the foreseeable future. To keep in
the know on all the upcoming virtual races, join the Facebook Community and make 23,000 new friends.
You don’t have to take up
the bagpipes or dabble in all things Dublin in order to celebrate St. Patrick’s
Day; everyone is welcome on March 17th. A virtual race is a simple
and convenient way to honor the holiday, do something healthy for yourself, and
donate to a great cause. Sign up today and Shamrock and roll.
